Also, our engineer, Dan, was in the process of creating a mounting bracket for the cans and getting ready for some road testing.
#FORD DEALERSHIP ALLOW INSTALL OIL CATCH CAN UPDATE#
In the last update we explained the benefit of having a catch can as part of both the PCV and CCV systems. When we began this project, we intended to see what a dual-can setup would accomplish. The bulk of time has mainly consisted of road testing we’ve logged thousands of miles so far, and every single mile counts.

Here's a pic of about 1.5weeks of running (~300miles) the catch can w/ my setup, ~slightly less than 1/2 full in the catch can.We have had some radio silence with this F150 catch can project, but we now have some updates that we are ready to spill! This has been an interesting project from the beginning. Once you get all of the couplers/fittings, it ends up being about a $3 cheaper option. It's about $3.50 for the purolator valve. I just opted for this pcv valve because it was regularly stocked at the local auto parts store, and I didn't have to pay $20 for the OEM valve and wait 3-4 days for it to be delivered.

Thnx for the info! Is there a advantage or disadvantage to not having a elbow PCV valve? Total price for the extra hose, the pipe fittings and PCV valve totalled just under $15. I also went ahead and bought another 2ft of 5/8" heater hose line, to make use of the new PCV combo. The pipe fittings needed are marked in the picure below. In order to make this PCV valve work w/ the install you have to buy 3 pipe fittings which can be found at Lowes or Home Depot. I was able to get the Purolator PCV valve from Advance Auto for $3.50. There are a bunch of PCV equivalents.NAPA PCV valve (#2-9303), Fram PCV valve (#FV277), or Purolator PCV valve (#PV1016). I didn't want to order and wait for the OEM PCV valve to arrive, so I opted to buy an equivalent PCV valve that Cobb used in their catch can install documentation. Also this can be used for those that opt to not want to order or want to wait for the Mazda/OEM PCV valve to arrive.Īdditional parts to get (outside of what smokinAMD supplies w/ his catch can group buy) Since smokinAMD's install how-to is pretty good, I'll just add to it with some install tips for those that have a MSCAI and for those who still have the stock horn. Wear gloves so you don't bust your knuckles on the back of the intake manifold like I did half a dozen times. It's going to take some force to get it off, but its not that bad. Once it was off of the hose, which seemed like an eternity, you can pull the hose off the existing PCV valve. I found it easier to push the clamp back towards the engine to get it off the hose versus pulling it further down the hose towards you. Trust me, there is a hose clamp on this guy. I didn't disconnect my battery, just because I'm lazy, but please, for your own safety, do so. Just for safety's sake, because you are working RIGHT NEXT to the starter, if you dropped your pliers you might have a shocking experience. I should probably mention at this point, you might want to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery. This is where the midget hands come in handy. Removing the hose from the existing PCV valve.

Next up remove the fender liner on the drivers side and position it out of the way, like so. If you can't figure this out on your own YOU SHOULD NOT BE ATTEMPTING THIS. Sorry, no included pictures of this process. M8x1.25 bolt with a couple of washers (split lock washer and standard flat)įirst thing to do is jack the car up, support it with some jack stand, remove the lower splash shield and drivers front wheel. 8 hose clamps that will work with 1/2" and 5/8" hose Additional OEM PCV valve - Mazda Part # 元K9-13-890 (The green end is 5/8", the orange end is 1/2") Materials Needed (Reflects an Elite Engineering can equipped with 1/2" hose barbs): However, for this particular brand of OCC, I believe this to be the best location, because it doesn't require you deal with routing the hoses clear of any moving parts, such as the radiator fan, or the serpentine belt. Installing any brand oil catch can is essentially the same process, the only difference is the design of the can may require you to choose a different mounting location than what I did. For those of you that purchased an Elite Engineering catch can during the group buy I ran, you will have all the necessary hardware to install this included in your purchase.

I'm going to cover how to install an "Elite Engineering" catch can on my 2007 Mazdaspeed 3. *DISCLAIMER* I take no responsibility if you damage your car, injure yourself, or void your warranty doing this.

Take one good look at the intake tract and you'll see what I'm talking about. These cars need an Oil Catch Can, plain and simple.
